Trip to Bhigwan

(Written on 18th February 2013 after a visit to Bhigwan on 17th February 2013 )

Incidence 1
May 2008 at Kanha National Park, evening Safari-
It was a thrilling moment to know that there was a possibility of a tiger just in front of us, across the road. We halted the jeep & waited..There were alarm calls from spotted deer, from barking deer, a restless, agitated activity from Hanuman Langoors.. The Sambars were tapping their feet on the ground.. looking in the direction of the tiger. In the tranquil & serene evening atmosphere, these calls were piercing.. There was an air of expectancy.... Something was to happen soon.. We had come to see tiger but had already seen so many other birds & animals.. A tiger would have been an icing on the cake, so to say.. But that was not to be .. It eluded us.. But the scene is engraved on the mind.. Even as we were returning dejected, night was slowly creeping in.. in a flash of moment, we saw a leopard passing by..With so many people around, the shy animal hurriedly went by us.. We saw it going on a small hillock like thing...So sometimes you come across pleasant surprises out of nowhere!

Incidence 2
May 2011, Sambar road, Jim Corbett National Park, Morning:
Again the search is on for an elusive tiger. But that day was made by the wonderful, chirpy birds. On the left was a pair of Paradise Flycatcher, just in front of them was a marvelously whistling Black headed Golden Oriole, then came the effervescent Scarlet Minivet & there was also a pair of Plum headed Parakeet... What more could one ask for. The morning fresh air, smell of soil after night rain, the sun rays making their way & the entire universe filled with the chirping of these wonderful birds...One of the most satisfying safaris, though we never saw tiger in Corbett!

Incidence 3
Yesterday, Bhigwan.. Morning :
Last time when we went 2 years back, we couldn't see Flamingos. This time one went with minimum expectation... It was a thoroughly enjoyable day with huge colonies of Painted Storks(wonderful to see them land), all the Ibises (White, black & glossy), Kites( Brahminy, Pariah, Black winged), Marsh Harrier, Bar headed Geese, Brahminy ducks, Spoon bill, Open billed stork, Pied & white throated Kingfisher, Cormorants, a huge flock of Demoiselle cranes, Indian river Tern, Seagulls, Pintails, spotbills, wagtails etc etc.. The day was already made.. And then suddenly we saw what is one of the most beautiful sights of all time- Flamingos making a V formation & flying.. The white color mixed with glistening pink on the wings, glistening because of the sunlight.. Wonderful.. No words to describe..
( But one must add, the water situation is really grim. The Bhigwan this year is beyond recognition from what we had seen last time)

Moral of the Story:
1) You don't need camera always.. You must first feel the situation..experience it completely..
2) There is a pleasure to be had even in small things.. Not just tiger/flamingos
3) If you have time, go visit Bhigwan immediately.. The birds will be there for a month at least..
4) As my camera is weak, there are no photos to share of yesterday's trip!
