The story of Kankati-
As mentioned in my earlier blog, we saw Bamera's Son & 3 cubs at a place called Tadoba in the Maghadi zone of Bandhavgarh. The cubs were 4 months old & needed attention from their mother. But it was a surprise that even the father Bamera's Son was taking that responsibility. We didn't see the Mother in the evening safari on the first day. But next day in the same place, we saw her( this time there was no father- or Bamera's Son) along with the cubs & a small story unfolded in front of us. Well, we couldn't capture the story entirely in our cameras. So I would have to fill in those gaps with my words..
It so happened that Kankati had a kill & she was feasting on it along with her 4 month old cubs when we saw them in the morning. The jury is still out whether the kill was a wild boar or a spotted deer!
For the cubs it was a learning session- they watched their mother eating the kill, intently & observantly.
One of the cubs, tried to snatch a piece away from the mother & received a loud 'scolding' from mother & so had to retreat..
Kankati enjoying the brunch...
The no-non sense looks...
Its interesting why they named her 'Kankati'. In this photo, you could see the slight slit on her left ear...

After she was finished with eating her share, the kids took their turn & then...
... It was time to clean..
In the meanwhile, there was one independent-minded cub.. It went on its own, away from the mother to the pond nearby.

This girl, Kankati, was so cool that she posed for the photographers... She was in the world of her own.. Oblivious to the surrounding..not distracted by the human presence ,the noise of the constant gunfire like clicking that could be heard, & also the attention, that she & her family were getting..
Time to cool off & for a morning siesta...all at once...
... And for the kids to just relax & hang around..
A Family that eats together, stays together !!!
